What little credibility President Musharraf’s denial had has now been completely destroyed by the Washington Post’s release of the actual audio from his interview [via arzan].

Meanwhile, those gentle souls at Foggy Bottom are taking a neutral position on the whole matter.

Said a spokesman:

“I’m not here to play judge about whether or not he was quoted accurately.” [link]

He added:

“Let me just state very clearly that the United States government speaks out very clearly that violence against women, wherever it may occur, is unacceptable. [link]

Perhaps President Musharraf needs to sit through some of the courses that are mandatory for career diplomats: ones in political correctness, if not ordinary human compassion.
