Any Batman-comic-reading teenager is familiar with Ra’s Al Ghul, the Dark Knight’s immortal nemesis. The Demon’s Head is how the writers at DC Comics translated the Arabic-sounding moniker. Imagine my surprise upon consulting my handy Urdu dictionary and finding that the translation was actually accurate.

  • Raas (noun, masculine): (1) head (2) leader (3) individual.
  • Ghool (noun, masculine): (1) gang, crowd (2) demon, fairy.

So, Bob Kane and company at DC actually got it right. Unless, of course, they were really going for the Queen of Fairies.
